Harvey's passion for storytelling is only matched by his life-long commitment to education and the emotional, social, and cultural lives of children.

Harvey was the executive producer of the 13-part PBS/CPB Annenberg video series, THE WHOLE CHILD, which provided the latest information about child development and child care for the critical years from birth to age five. Before that, Harvey created CITY TALES, an award-winning documentary series for young people co-produced for Post Newsweek Stations and Detroit Public Television. He has produced many video programs about critical issues facing young children and their families, including WHAT ABOUT ME? KIDS & GRIEF and LOST & FOUND: YOUNG PEOPLE TALK ABOUT DEPRESSION.

HKO Media's program about youth violence, THE LAST HIT, was the recipient of an Alfred I. duPont - Columbia University Awards Silver Baton. HKO Media has also received four CINE Golden Eagle Awards, a national Emmy, a Peabody, an Iris Award from the National Association of Television Programming Executives, and the American Film Institute's Robert M. Bennett Award for Excellence. Harvey has been nominated for an Ollie Award by the American Children's Television Festival and was awarded the National Educational Film & Video Festival's Golden Apple Award.

Harvey and his collaborator, Bill Pace, are currently in a co-production agreement with a nationally acclaimed producer of children's programming. Harvey's other projects for children, teachers and caregivers include PENDRAGON PARK ™ and PLEASE DON'T EAT THE BOOKS ™, two literacy initiatives designed to fuel the imaginations of children while inspiring them to read and write. Also in development is LEONARDO'S KITCHEN™, a new children's property inspired by the funny, messy, mysterious universe of kids and cooking.

The world knows Harvey Ovshinsky mainly as a writer, story consultant, and an award-winning video producer and director, but to lots of kids he is also their favorite teacher. "Mister O," as his students called him, taught screenwriting at University of Detroit Jesuit High School and was on the faculty at the Grosse Pointe Academy where he taught creative writing for 15 years. Harvey has also taught in the Detroit Public Schools as part of Dr. Terry Blackhawk's InsideOut program, a literary arts project for students that places professional writers-in-residence at schools.

Harvey's commitment to both teaching and producing entertaining and educational children's programming, products, and services is based on his innovative and proprietary "show, don't tell," coaching-philosophy called Physual™ learning. Physual™ (physical + visual) learning is a personal, hands-on, experiential learning style that helps teachers teach and kids learn while restoring a sense of playfulness and purpose to the learning and problem-solving experience.
